What's the Issue?

by Mike Pasternak

This book is concerned with the process of playmaking and includes an anthology of plays created by young people focusing on Global Themes. It takes the teacher, step by step through:

  • the considerations of learning about Global Issues
  • the practical steps to creating a piece of Global Issues Theatre
  • a practical 'tried and tested' example

It then provides five scripts that have been created by students at the International School of Geneva, La Chataigneraie that can be used in class work and/or for productions/performances.
Finally Mike explores with teachers methodology that includes learning outcomes, proposed timelines and choosing how to participate.

Mike Pasternak has been involved in teaching Global Issues for many years, after having worked as a research fellow at the Centre for Global Education in York, UK, specialising in the development of Theatre and Interactive teaching and learning approaches for use across a range of disciplines. He has been involved with teacher training on Human Rights Education and 'Facing History and Ourselves'. He has previously published several articles on human rights education, global education and interactive teaching methodologies.

£30.00 for non-ISTA members

As outlined in the book we will be inviting teachers to make a contribution to a named third world charity (dealing with issues such as Aids Awareness) should you decide to take any of the scripts to performance level.
